3D Airplane

Create a new document set 1024px by 768px, RGB, and 72 pixels/inch. Search for a nice landscape image, paste it into a new layer, and call it "Landscape." I choose this image because it has a huge tree that helps find the position of the shadows.

3D Splashes

Start to throw the paint from a cut plastic bottle. You can do it in front of a white wall or a green screen (if you have it) to obtain a good contrast on the edges of the splashes. The results will show better if you mix water and paint together. Be forewarned, stay away from the paint. In this attempt, we lost a cashmere pullover and a watch—irremediably stained.

3D Wood Cup

Let's get it started. First of all open Illustrator, I'm using Illustrator CS3 to render the cup. Create a new Web Document that is 1024 pixels by 768 pixels. Next, draw a shape with the Pen tool, as in the image below. Ensure the foreground color is a light gray (#E6E6E6) and set the Stroke Color as None.

Batch Editing

Since not every Photoshop user is a graphic designer, neither a web developer, there's a lot of people who need graphic tools that can make their life easier. If you're a photographer, or a webmaster, maybe this is the right tutorial for you.

Blueprint Image

Weeks ago, when I published my tutorial about the 3D airplane, I was looking everywhere for a free 3D model with a Creative Commons license. In my quest to find it, I notice some cool websites with absolutely awesome 3D objects to available to play with. For this tutorial, we will use a nice 3D car downloaded from CGIndia.org. When I opened the car in Photoshop I saw the axis planes (X,Y,Z) were part of the model too. This inspired the idea of creating a blueprint of the different views of the car.

Breakdown Cover

Open this picture of a masked woman. Go to the Layers Pallette, double-click with the left mouse button on the layer to unlock it. Now you can move the picture. Position it nicely on the left side of the mask.

Button Maker

Start by drawing in a colored background. I've used dark brown/greys here and used a subtle radial gradient. Then in a new layer, draw a circle and fill it with a color. It doesn't matter what color you use; I've used green here.

Coloring Techniques

Double-click on the background image to make it an active layer. Create a new group by clicking on the little folder icon located at the bottom of the layers palette and put the layer in the group. Name the group "girl". Draw a path around all the hard edges of the girl. This includes the face and the shoulders. Don't worry about the hair for now; we will do that separately. Save the path. Make a selection of the path by holding Command-clicking on the path thumbnail in the paths palette. Hit Alt+Command+D and Feather the selection by 0.5px. Apply the selection as a mask on the "girl" group.

Dramatic Winged Dragon

I've always liked dragons, this time I've got the chance to create a dragon using a few real life pictures and mock-up the creature into a realistic landscape. First of all, find your pictures. The scene isn't a problem, you can use any picture, I'm using this, which is a nice ruined castle to put my dragon on it.

Dynamic Lighting

For this tutorial, we'll need two photos that I took. You can download them to follow along. These are my photos: castle photo and clouds photo.
